SVD to take charge of new parish in famous Pagudpud
LAOAG CITY, August 10, 2008--The Society of Divine Word (SVD) will be tasked to care for a new parish which will soon be erected in Panzian, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte upon the invitation of Laoag Bishop Sergio L. Utleg.
Fr. Denny Lucas, SVD said the new parish will attend to the spiritual needs of the residents in the northern portion of Pagudpud and the town of Adams where the SVDs have been holding evangelization missions for the past years.
He said the increase in parishioners in Pagudpud was the reason for the establishment of a new parish. The distance between the town proper and Panzian was also considered.
The SVD missionaries have been managing Divine Word College in the city. Formerly known as St. Williams College, DWC-Laoag is one of the more prominent learning institutions in northern Luzon.
The SVDs began working in Laoag in 1946 at the invitation of the Archbishop of Nueva Segovia prior to the establishment of the Diocese of Laoag.
